Interact Club of Windham High School visits Elan

The Interact Club of Windham High School visited Elan on Wednesday October 20th, 2010. They made a presentation of their work with Safe Passage and their visit to Guatemala. Interact Club President, Logan Cummings thanked the students of Elan, and Elan’s W.I.S.E. Club, which co-sponsored the Esperanza 5k Road Race held recently at Windham High School.
“You guys did a great job with your help with putting on the Esperanza 5k which will help the children of Safe Passage, he said. Logan was able to show a slide show of the trip that the Interact Club made to Guatemala including pictures of the dumpsites. Additionally, hewell as the school that “Safe Passage” operates. Mrs. Elizabeth Bubier was also in attendance. She is the advisor of both the Spanish Club and the Interact Club at Windham High School. She spoke of the hardships of the children who live in the dump sites near Guatemala City, Guatemala. “The difficulty is that many of the children who attend Safe Passage, have to return to their homes in the dump site at night. They live in extreme poverty.”
Safe Passage is an international organization whose goal is to educate the poorest-at-risk children, whose family live in the
Guatemala City garbage dump community.
