Spring Mile

(Poland Spring- Students battle for position on the course for the Spring Mile)
As part of a long standing tradition, Elan students ran the spring mile, which is actually 8/10 of a mile on a course stretching across the campus on Number 5 Road. This year's students ran the fastest accumulative time in the history of Elan.
The course record remains unbroken however. Set by Bones Weaver in 1999 at 3:37. Weaver had broken the prior record held by Ryan who ran a time of 3:41.
“In 1997 the top 10 fastest times were posted by the Buccaneers on the track team. It still remains the top times for athletes in uniform. They achieved those times after a grueling earling morning lengthly practice so it makes the accomplishment even greater.” Said Elan coach Peter E. Rowe
“Winning the Spring Mile has always been one of the most important events of the year. You are the fastest athlete on campus. It means bragging rights for a whole year." said Matt in 1998.
“The Spring Mile was an adrenline rush. You could feel the competition in the air,", said Tyler who finished this year with a time of 4:05.
Sumner won the spring mile with a time of 3:56.01 this year. Jack finished as the runner-up posting a PR (personal record) with a time of 3:58. "I let him hold it for a couple of days", said Sumner. "But then I had to show him who was the fastest man on campus."
"The Spring Mile was an adrenline rush.
You could feel the competition in the air.”
